Christensen at Barça: Renewal or Imminent Departure?
Andreas Christensen is experiencing his worst season at FC Barcelona. The Danish player started the season with the hope of being an important piece for Hansi Flick, but injuries have kept him sidelined since last August, and the German has practically excluded him from his project. The center-back could have left the Catalan City last winter, but a new physical setback once again thwarted his plans, so the club has outlined the roadmap for his future.
According to 'SPORT', the Catalans' priority is to cash in on his transfer at the end of the season, as his contract expires in 2026, and although the player has expressed his desire to see out his contract, he would be willing to make it easier considering his year on the sidelines. However, to put him on the market he should have minutes in this final part of the season, as otherwise it will be very difficult to reach a favorable agreement for all parties.
This scenario seems, at first, complicated, as the coach made it clear that the good performance of his teammates conditions his participation. However, the injuries of Marc Casadó and Iñigo Martínez could give him some opportunity to prove his worth. The player showed he was up to the task under Xavi, which is why he could be an interesting asset for Flick in the coming weeks.
Barça Could Renew Christensen
At Can Barça, they understand that Christensen still has cachet in the market and will not give him away, although they will not allow him to leave for free in 2026. Therefore, the management does not rule out offering him a renewal for one more year if an attractive offer for his transfer does not arrive, and even the option of letting him leave on loan for a season to regain match rhythm and increase his value is on the table.
For now, both the club and the player will handle the situation calmly. The priority, as of today, is that once he recovers from his injury in the soleus, Andreas feels like a footballer again and gains playing time on the field, so the final decision about his future will be postponed until the end of the season.
The truth is that his continuity in the Catalan City seems increasingly distant, and the azulgrana entity views his departure favorably as it is considered an opportunity to generate significant income and relieve salary mass. Meanwhile, clubs like Brentford and Juventus are keeping an eye on the Danish player's situation and present themselves as possible escape routes, so the 'soap opera' will heat up in the coming weeks.
