Will FC Barcelona launch an offensive to sign Alejandro Baena? At the moment, it is not entirely clear. However, the option seems to be latent in the environment, with the support of Deco
FC Barcelona, despite boasting an attack ranked as one of the best in the world in the 2024/25 season, not only for the names of its players but also for their statistical performance, seems to be considering further strengthening its forward line with one of the young talents currently shining in LaLiga EA Sports. This player has previously been linked to the Blaugrana team.
The player in question is Alejandro Baena, a 23-year-old left winger currently playing for Villarreal CF. Apparently, the Roquetas de Mar native, who was a champion of the Euro and the Olympic Games with Spain in the 2023/24 season, as suggested by 'El Nacional.cat', has caught the attention of the Barcelona's sports director, Deco, as one of the standout players in the local league, notably for his remarkable ability to assist his teammates.
Alejandro Baena, a viable option for FC Barcelona's sporting project?
The ability to assist is not mere talk, why? For the 2024-25 season, he already co-leads with Lamine Yamal in the record for most assists in LaLiga EA Sports (5). Additionally, in the previous season, he accumulated 14 assists in the local competition, leading this statistic. It is clear that his ability to create scoring opportunities is a very compelling argument for considering his incorporation. Moreover, he is a skilled player with vision and creative ability that could contribute significantly in Barcelona's midfield.
Equally important is the fact that the forward has hinted at his interest in joining the Blaugrana team, so it seems likely that he is open to wearing the Catalan club's colors. Given the evident harmony between both parties, it would not be surprising if the Blaugrana launched an offensive for him. However, this move could be complicated mainly due to economic reasons.
Would it be economically viable for the Blaugrana club to bet on signing Baena?
At this point, it will be crucial to evaluate whether Villarreal CF, the team that owns his rights until 2028, considers any alternative besides letting the player go only through the payment of his release clause, which is currently set at €60 million. It is unknown whether Barcelona would be willing to pay this amount, especially for a player who, at first glance, does not seem to be a market priority for the Barcelona side, although he would be a very valuable reinforcement.
