Barça have reportedly set their sights on Jonathan David. The Canadian striker is out of contract and the Catalans are considering him as a possible replacement for Lewandowski

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The centre forward position will be one of the open fronts for FC Barcelona next season. The Robert Lewandowski file, whose contract ends although there is an optional one-year renewal from June, will have to be resolved in the coming months. The Pole is having a sensational start to the season, but it is also true that next year he will turn 37 and the Catalans, strategically, will have to strengthen the position for the future whether the '9' continues or not.

With the option of Vitor Roque practically ruled out after his departure last summer, the Catalans are analysing various alternatives for the attack. One of the most liked at Can Barça is that of Viktor Gyökeres, a striker from Sporting CP who is being sought by the big clubs on the continent. Precisely, the competition for the Swede could raise his starting price to a record figure, so the Catalans are 'combing' the market in search of 'low cost' options.

This is where the name of Jonathan David appears as a more than attractive opportunity for the Blaugrana entity. The Lille striker, who the Blaugrana sports management has had on their agenda since last year, ends his contract on June 30 and everything indicates that he will not extend his link with the French despite their intention to retain him, as reported by 'SPORT'.

David is a self-confessed culé

The Canadian striker has become one of the great stars of Ligue 1 and one of the top scorers in Europe. His level and versatility, being able to perform in different offensive positions, have aroused the interest of several teams, with Juventus being the one that has 'pressed' the most for his arrival. However, in the Premier League they are also after him and could be involved in an interesting 'bid' from January.

Despite this, David has already declared himself a culé in the past. "FC Barcelona has always been my favourite club, I've been supporting them since I was a kid," the striker said in an interview on the 'Winamax' YouTube channel in 2023. Barça have good reports of the footballer and he has started to be followed closely, although at the moment there is nothing concrete. However, his name could begin to resonate in the corridors of the Spotify Camp Nou in the coming months.
