Barça have reportedly decided to get rid of Andreas Christensen. The player is expected to leave next summer, although a transfer in January is not ruled out
Andreas Christensen's time at FC Barcelona is numbered. The Dane is in the Barcelona infirmary after suffering a tendinopathy in his left Achilles, which has kept him out for almost three months. Although, a priori, his ailments did not represent a major problem, his recovery has been delayed more than expected and his return is scheduled for January.
Once the defender rejoins the team managed by Hansi Flick, the Catalans will have to resolve the file on his registration, since, taking advantage of his long-term physical problem, they released him last summer to sign Dani Olmo.
Barça puts Christensen on the transfer list
Although, in principle, the footballer would not have problems playing after receiving the medical clearance, the newspaper 'SPORT' has assured that Can Barça do not rule out his departure during the next transfer market, although it is more likely that it will occur at the end of the season.
Christensen became an 'untouchable' for Xavi, playing a total of 74 games under the orders of the Egarense, who found in the Dane the ideal solution for the axis of the midfield. The injuries of Frenkie de Jong and Oriol Romeu forced the Terrassa native to bet on Andreas as a pivot, and the player knew how to respond on the field, earning the total confidence of the coach and his stay at the club.
However, his contractual situation (his contract expires in 2026 and is not expected to be renewed), added to the overbooking of centre-backs that Barça has on the payroll (Cubarsí, Iñigo Martínez, Eric Garcia, Sergi Domínguez) and the possible signing of Jonathan Tah, would complicate his place in the first team, so the Catalans have decided to put him on the transfer list to take advantage of his reputation in other leagues and make money with his transfer.
