Barça is taking steps to secure De Jong's renewal. What plan do they have?

The continuity of Frenkie de Jong at FC Barcelona has shifted from being in doubt to being a more than real possibility. The player continues his path of performance in the first team, and after surpassing Marc Casadó in midfield, his renewal with the blue and garnet entity is starting to get closer.

A couple of weeks ago, his representative, Ali Dursun, had an informal meeting with Deco, the club's sporting director, in the Catalan city to continue aligning positions. The meeting was brief and served as a prelude to negotiations to extend the player's contract, which are expected to take place in March or April. The relationship between both parties is fluid, and the Dutchman's priority would be to extend his commitment to Barça.

The midfielder is happy in the team managed by Hansi Flick and in the city, and although several months ago it seemed he had one foot out of Spotify Camp Nou, the situation has taken a radical turn once the player earned the trust of the German coach, so the institution's priority is to finalize his renewal before the '21' enters the last year of his contract in the 25/26 season.

The Barça formula to reach an agreement with De Jong

In this regard, the newspaper 'SPORT' reported that the club's idea is to extend his contract for three more seasons in which he would receive the same salary he is currently earning, which ranges between 18 and 19 million euros gross per year.

However, given how high that figure is, the Barça would have devised a strategy to meet the economic demands of Frenkie. The Catalans would be willing to assume the payments demanded by the Dutchman, as long as the total amount to be received is linked to sporting performance.

That is to say, De Jong would receive a lower fixed salary than he currently gets, but it could be increased based on the fulfillment of certain variables (matches played, titles won...) until reaching the current figure. In this way, the Catalans protect themselves against any inconvenience that prevents the midfielder from having a main role in the team, and the player would see his expectations met if he maintains good performance. For now, there is nothing concrete, and conversations will continue in the coming days.
