FC Barcelona could be very close to completing the sale of Senegalese defender Mika Faye. What will be his fate? It is still not clear, but initially, Rennes and Besiktas seem to have some favoritism, with financially very attractive offers
The FC Barcelona seems to be getting closer and closer to finalizing a new sale in this summer transfer market of 2024/25. In that sense, everything points to the fact that the Blaugrana team is taking significant steps to conclude the transfer of the 19-year-old Senegalese defender, Mika Faye, whose departure seems imminent.
At first glance, the one from Sédhiou appeared as one of the most attractive assets of the Barcelona squad to be transferred in this market, as in the last season, just over 1 million euros were invested to bring him from NK Kustošija. Now, a year later, after having a stellar season with Barça Atlètic, even catching the attention of the Senegal national team, where he made his debut last March, he has experienced an exponential increase in his value, leading the Catalan team to set a price of 15 million euros for his transfer.
At this point, it feels like everything is finally falling into place for this farewell to materialize. Why? The Senegalese player, who has been actively participating in the first team training sessions at Barça during this 2024/25 preseason, did not train in the work session scheduled for Friday at the Joan Gamper Sports City, due to a viral infection according to the club's official explanation. However, another sector has suggested that his absence from training is precisely due to his imminent departure from the Barcelona entity.
Rennes and Besiktas, the top favorites in the 'race' for the signing of Mika Faye
In this scenario, the club that seems to stand out as the favorite is Stade Rennes, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, who mentioned that they had offered Barcelona a transfer of 10 million euros with a percentage between 20% and 25% of a future sale. Although it has not been revealed if the agreement would include the buy-back clause that the Barcelona team seems to want to let him go, it is clear that the interest from the French side is solid, as after that initial offer, they have kept actively engaging with the institution to closely monitor the progress of the negotiation.
However, it is also important to consider that the French side is not the only one interested in acquiring Mika Faye, as recently there has been strong interest from Besiktas, who would be willing to offer 10 million euros to Barça for him, as well as tempting him with attractive salary conditions. Additionally, they are apparently willing to accept the mentioned buy-back clause, a detail that would add great appeal to the transaction, given that Barcelona wants to closely monitor the player's progress in case of a stellar performance.
