The FC Barcelona seems to have no doubts regarding their market plan for the remainder of the 2024/25 summer period. As the outgoing operation continues to succeed and the economic situation becomes more stable, they plan to focus on acquiring a left winger. Furthermore, in the background, they are considering acquiring a top-tier right-back to strengthen the position. Although Jules Koundé usually performs well in that role, it is clear that he is not a natural right-back.

In this regard, the Blaugrana seem to have an alternative in mind to bolster the right side: João Cancelo. Despite rumors suggesting a possible move for Marc Pubill, a talented full-back from UD Almería and a recent Olympic champion, the sporting direction of the Catalan club, as reported by 'Mundo Deportivo', considers it a top priority to bring back the Portuguese right-back currently playing for Manchester City.

However, this does not seem to be an easy task. As we recently mentioned here at FCBN, Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia has apparently made an attractive offer to the 'citizens' to acquire the Portuguese player for around €35 million, a sum they would be willing to accept. Now it all depends on Cancelo, who must decide whether to accept the deal, which could rule out any possibility of FC Barcelona counting on him for the 2024/25 season.

FC Barcelona still holds onto hope of signing João Cancelo

If this transaction does not materialize, it will be interesting to see if the Barcelona team and the 'Sky Blues' can reach an agreement on this deal. It seems that the Culés are looking to secure Barreiro's services through a loan with a reasonable purchase option, but Manchester City is keen to offload the player permanently, demanding a sum close to €30 million in transfer fees. This amount could be challenging for the Catalan team to afford.

Now, can the Culés find a formula to successfully close this negotiation? Only time will tell. Meanwhile, until his move to another team is officially confirmed, there remains the possibility of him donning the Blaugrana jersey starting this summer.
