FC Barcelona would have its sights on Felipe Esquivel, the new great 'jewel' of River Plate, as a possible reinforcement for its attack line. Will they decide to bet on his signing?

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The FC Barcelona has demonstrated on more than one occasion a remarkable ability to identify young talent, not only in European nations, but also by expanding its reach to include players from African and South American nations. Recently, the 'Culé' team has set its sights on a new emerging promise from Argentine football.

As reported in 'SPORT', Barcelona is closely monitoring one of the new 'gems' from River Plate. This time, the player in question is Felipe Esquivel, a 16-year-old right winger who is under contract with the 'Millonario' team until December 31, 2026, with a release clause of $30 million.

Felipe Esquivel is described in Argentina as a skilled, fast player with the ability to take on opponents and finish plays well. He is versatile and can play on both the right and left wings, or even as an attacking midfielder. Recently, he shone in the U-15 South American Championship held in Bolivia, where the 'Albiceleste' finished in third place. His most notable contribution was undoubtedly the spectacular goal he scored in the fifth match against Brazil (1-1).

It was a fantastic goal showcasing his quality. In that play, Esquivel received a lobbed pass near the box and skillfully evaded his marker, then unleashed a powerful shot with his right foot that left the opposing goalkeeper with no chance, despite a great dive.

Felipe Esquivel, awaiting his debut with the River Plate first team

So far, he has not had the opportunity to debut in the First Division with River Plate, but he is evidently highly regarded within the 'Millonaria' entity. In Argentina, there is a possibility that he might be one of the youth players to participate in the pre-season with the 'Gallina' first team in January, to be evaluated by Marcelo Gallardo.

Previously, River Plate has shown a willingness to bet on young talents in the past, regardless of their age, as seen in cases like that of Franco Mastantuono (17 years old), closely followed by Real Madrid, or the case of Claudio 'Diablito' Echeverri (18 years old), who has already been signed by Manchester City.

Now, it remains to be seen if FC Barcelona will ultimately decide to bet on him. It's worth noting that this decision could be delayed, as being an international player under 18, he cannot move to European football yet. Furthermore, should Barça decide to make a move for Felipe Esquivel, they must be entirely sure of their choice.

Basing solely on the player's release clause, the acquisition would be around €30 million, a significant investment for a player who has not yet experienced European football. Nonetheless, he is viewed as a promising and bright talent for the future of the sport.
