Jonathan Tah is Barça's main target for defence. Hansi Flick considers him a priority and is putting pressure on the club to sign him
Jonathan Tah is set to be one of the stars of the summer transfer market for FC Barcelona. The German has decided not to renew his contract with Bayer Leverkusen and is reportedly weighing up his options, with the Catalan club and Bayern Munich being the main candidates to sign the player at zero cost at the end of the season.
According to the newspaper 'BILD', the player's entourage has already rejected offers from Inter Milan and Juventus, since, if he does not continue in the Bundesliga with the Bavarians, he would prefer to head to Spain, where Real Madrid are also considering signing him in January due to their absences in defence.
However, the operation has reportedly cooled off as they are not willing to pay a transfer fee of more than 10 million euros for a player who would arrive for free in June. And it is in this scenario where Barça gains ground, since Hansi Flick will be putting pressure on the Catalans to bring Tah to Barcelona, considering him a market opportunity since he would arrive 'for free'.
The 'Flick factor' would tip the balance in favour of Barça
In fact, the German would be speaking with Jonathan's inner circle to try to convince him to join his squad. The club's numerous injuries in defence (Christensen, Araujo, Eric Garcia...), added to the possible departure of one of the centre-backs next summer, make the German a very attractive piece, since the coach knows him perfectly from his time with the German national team and believes that his profile is ideal to improve the team's defensive play.
In the same way, the presence of Pini Zahavi, Tah's agent, in the negotiations is a favourable factor for the Catalans, since the representative also handles the affairs of Robert Lewandowski and Flick himself. For this reason, the centre-back is reportedly debating between the Catalans and the Munich players, and his final decision would depend on the sporting project presented to him and the role he should have in the team.
