Leroy Sané's future remains 'up in the air' with Bayern Munich. Will the German be an option for FC Barcelona?
FC Barcelona is keeping an eye on Leroy Sané's future. Although Bayern Munich does not rule out renewing his contract, the winger is set to leave on a free transfer this summer, which has several teams on alert for the possibility of signing him for free. For the Catalan club, however, his salary may be somewhat difficult to manage, as the forward earns around 15 million euros net per year.
"There is still no decision", said Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, referring to the future of the '10'. However, he did not close the door on the 29-year-old winger, who has scored 56 goals and provided 50 assists in 209 appearances for Bayern. "Leroy, like everyone else, also has options to obtain a new contract", he added. The player from Essen joined the club in 2029 for 49 'million' from Manchester City.
Leroy Sané could face a harsh sanction in Germany
Amid rumors of his possible departure, Sané was involved in an unfortunate incident during his team's loss to Bochum (2-3) on Saturday. Vincent Kompany decided to substitute him in the 63rd minute, and the '10' left the field visibly angry. So much so that, upon leaving the pitch instead of Michael Olise, the 29-year-old player slapped the fourth official.
The action went unnoticed by the main referee and the VAR official, but in the coming days he could face a harsh sanction if the Bundesliga refereeing committee decides to review the incident. This season, Leroy has scored 8 goals and provided 4 assists in 34 matches (1,711 minutes) with Bayern. Next Tuesday, he should be a starter again in the Champions League round of 16 return leg against Leverkusen.
The aggregate score currently favors the Bavarians clearly (3-0) against a Bayer team that lost its main star, Florian Wirtz, probably for the rest of the season. Both Wirtz and Sané are two players that Barcelona likes, although in the case of the Leverkusen '10', his extremely high price (over 100M €) makes him an impossible signing for next summer. Even the Munich side seems to be giving up on signing him this year.
