Liverpool is looking for a destination for Darwin Núñez next season. The 25-year-old forward is having a disappointing season under coach Arne Slot, being a substitute both in the Premier League and in the Champions League for much of the 2024/25 season. The 'reds' paid 75 million euros to Benfica in 2023 for his transfer, and his salary remains at 7.5 'kilos' net per year.
In this regard, the latest information indicates the interest of those from Merseyside in negotiating the loan of the Uruguayan international, as Slot will not count on him next season. One of the destinations for the player from Artigas could be FC Barcelona, as the azulgrana team is looking for another center forward to back up Robert Lewandowski, preferably a 'low cost' alternative, understanding that the Pole will continue to be the highest-paid player on the team for at least another year.
Darwin Núñez, a viable option for Barça?
In the 2024/25 season, Darwin has 6 goals and 5 assists in 33 matches (1,660 minutes) with Liverpool. However, he hasn't scored since January 18 (a brace against Brentford), and in the League, he hasn't been a starter since 'Boxing Day' against Leicester (he played 78 minutes in the 3-1 victory). For Barça, the 25-year-old forward could be an interesting option if, ultimately, players like Ferran Torres and Pau Víctor decide to leave in the summer, as he is a natural '9' with experience in the European elite.
However, as long as 'The Shark' is in the squad, it is very likely that he will continue to be Lewandowski's substitute. In Núñez's case, his best season was 21/22, in which he scored 34 goals in 41 matches with Benfica. With Liverpool, his highest scoring was 18 goals in 54 appearances last season, where he also provided 13 assists. Although he has a contract with the 'reds' until 2028, it is very likely that he will change teams in the 25/26 season.
