Girona will make a new effort to try to recover Eric García in the winter market. Míchel's team prioritizes a simple loan, a route that is not very attractive for FC Barcelona

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The sports director of Girona, Quique Cárcel, will soon resume contacts with FC Barcelona to try to sign Eric García. According to 'Mundo Deportivo', Míchel insists on recovering the '24' culé, who already played on loan at Montilivi last season, being one of the figures of the team that finished third in LaLiga last year. The 'albirrojos', however, know that the negotiation with Barça will not be easy.

And it is that, beyond the importance of signing the azulgrana center-back, Girona would only be willing to negotiate a six-month loan, without an obligatory purchase option. Barça maintains the release clause of the 23-year-old defender at 400 million euros, while his market value remains at 18 'kilos', a high amount for the budget of the City Group-owned team.

Barça only considers Eric García's exit through a transfer

In this sense, for Barça, the stance on the future of the center-back is very clear. Hansi Flick counts on him and his exit will only be viable through a transfer. Eric has a contract until 2026 and, for now, his renewal is not a topic of conversation for the azulgrana board. Looking ahead to next summer, the stance may be very different, as the club expects to receive a minimum of 15 million euros from his sale.

Thus, the transfer of the '24' could be a major obstacle for Girona, as Barça needs cash and the 'albirrojos' only think of a simple loan. The culés, however, aim for a higher sale to resolve their issues with 'Fair Play', with Frenkie de Jong being the most beneficial exit for the club, both in terms of the amount of the operation and the salary mass it would free up.

The defender, for his part, hopes to stay physically healthy to fight for a spot, understanding that, with the returns of Araujo and Christensen, he will have far fewer minutes than he played in the first half of the season. García has accumulated 541 minutes of action spread over 13 matches, six of them as a starter. The pubalgia he suffered in mid-October kept him out for a month. Since then, he has only started against Leganés.
