Girona remains very attentive to the future of Eric García at FC Barcelona. In the press conference prior to the duel against Atlético de Madrid, Míchel left open the possibility of recovering the Catalan center back before the market closes

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The FC Barcelona board still has serious doubts about the future of Eric García. Although the Catalan has the confidence of Hansi Flick, the need to make money and free up salary mass keeps the '24' on the transfer list, a factor that Girona will seek to take advantage of this week. In the run-up to the visit to Atlético de Madrid, Míchel himself referred to the possibility of recovering one of his key pieces from last season.

"I'm looking forward to tomorrow's game, he's not a player who's here and, therefore, he doesn't occupy my thoughts. He's a great player and we all know it, but right now he's from Barça and I don't know what will happen," explained the Madrid coach. However, he left the door open for the arrival of more reinforcements this week. "The market is open, but I don't know what will happen. I'm sure we will do something," he said.

Flick still has Eric García as a pivot

Against Athletic, Hansi Flick once again gave Eric minutes in the complement, occupying the pivot position. In both games, the 23-year-old defender replaced Marc Bernal, in Mestalla in the 71st minute and in Montjuïc in the 83rd minute. However, although the German coach has the '24' 100%, his future is still up in the air and, between now and August 30, anything can happen.

And, although he has the coach's trust, García knows that he will hardly be a starter this season at Barça, unlike in Girona where he will also be able to play in the Champions League, but as a key piece in Míchel's scheme. The former Manchester City defender played 31 games (2,670 minutes) last season with the 'albirrojos', scoring 5 goals. At Barça he aims to be an important replacement, but his departure could help a last-minute signing, perhaps of a winger or full-back.
