Barça could give up on one of their favourite candidates to strengthen their centre-back position. After being linked to several rumours about a possible exit from Bayern this summer, Joshua Kimmich has reportedly decided to stay in Munich and renew his contract

Joshua Kimmich's future has reportedly moved away from FC Barcelona for good. The footballer has been the subject of several rumours in this transfer market, which have placed him outside Bayern Munich and linked him to teams such as Real Madrid, PSG or Manchester City, in addition to the Blaugrana squad, as he is not comfortable with his situation at the Allianz Arena. The player's contract expires in 2025 and his renewal is 'stalled', so everything pointed to him trying his luck at a new destination this summer.

It is no secret that Kimmich was upset with the club's previous administration and with the role he had on the pitch when Thomas Tuchel was in charge of the team. Now everything seems to have changed, because the English coach left Munich, as well as certain leaders with whom the player had several clashes, which is why the German international has made a radical change in his intentions and would be willing to continue defending the Bavarian shirt. The newspaper 'BILD' even claims that he would be open to signing a new contract, with the aim of taking over from legends such as Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller, whose time at the club seems to be numbered.

Bayern's new sporting director, Max Eberl, has held several talks with the player and both parties would be willing to continue together, so a free farewell next summer would not be considered. In Vincent Kompany's scheme, Kimmich will be able to have a more incisive role on the pitch, occupying a more offensive role as the team's number 8, something that is very much to his liking and that has been one of the motivations that have led him to remain in the Munich ranks.

It was not a viable option for Barcelona

At Can Barça they had the desire to sign the midfielder this summer, but the conditions of his transfer were always unaffordable for the club. Even though Kimmich would fit perfectly into Hansi Flick's scheme, the cost of the operation would be impossible to assume at the moment. The Bavarians would not let him leave for less than 40-50 million euros, in addition to the fact that his salary is one of the highest in the squad at around 10.3M€ per season. For that reason, for the Blaugranas, it was either signing him for free in 2025 or nothing, although the player's change of attitude may have definitively ruled out his landing in Barcelona.
