Hansi Flick seems to have a clear vision for the future of one of the central defenders of FC Barcelona. With the return of Ronald Araujo and the imminent signing of Jonathan Tah, Andreas Christensen would be the one sentenced
The future of Andreas Christensen looks very distant from FC Barcelona for the 2024/25 season. The Danish player hopes to finally receive medical clearance in January after missing the last four months of competition due to a left Achilles tendinopathy. However, the tough competition for a spot in Hansi Flick's XI places him as the last alternative among the available central defenders in the squad.
This month, Barça will also recover Ronald Araujo, making it six players competing for a starting position in the center of defense. Flick has favored Iñigo Martínez and Pau Cubarsí as the starting central defenders so far, with Eric García and Sergi Domínguez as substitutes for the youth player and the Basque, respectively. García has also contributed in midfield, something that Christensen is also capable of doing.
Barça hopes to resolve Christensen's future in the summer
However, the prolonged inactivity of '15', along with the possible signing of Jonathan Tah next summer, makes the player from Lillerod the first sentenced in the culé defense. Like Andreas, Eric also has few chances of continuing, and in fact, his departure may occur even before that of the Danish player. Girona is very interested in signing him, a deal that could close this month if an interesting offer comes in for the culés.
As for Christensen, it is very likely that we will have to wait until summer to resolve his departure. The 28-year-old defender still has one more season left on his contract and Barça hopes to receive at least 15 million euros for his transfer. However, in January it is almost impossible for offers to come in for him, as his physical condition is a complete mystery. In fact, his injury allowed the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor in the summer, two operations that the club has yet to resolve.
