FC Barcelona's debut in the Copa del Rey seemed like an ideal opportunity for Ansu Fati to return to the culé XI. However, Hansi Flick only gave him half an hour of play in the rout against Barbastro (0-4)
Ansu Fati remained on the bench again in FC Barcelona's rout against UD Barbastro (0-4). Hansi Flick opted for Fermín López and Pablo Torre as companions to Robert Lewandowski due to the absences of Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and Ferran Torres, as well as Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. Despite the scarcity of available forwards, the '10' barely played half an hour and his future looks increasingly distant from Can Barça.
The player from Bissau came on in the 62nd minute for Lewandowski, but he could not take advantage of the opportunities offered by a completely open defense from the Huesca team in the final stretch of the match. Ansu had a golden one-on-one chance in the 81st minute against Fàbrega, but his shot went straight to the goalkeeper. In total, the 22-year-old completed 10 of 13 passes (77%), with 4 duels won and 5 lost, in addition to a couple of shots on goal and another couple of attempts blocked by the opposing defense.
Hansi Flick will continue to count on Ansu as a substitute
In the post-match press conference, Flick referred to the minutes of the '10'. For the German, there is no doubt about where the 22-year-old forward should play. "Today, and in previous matches, we have put him on the right, but he can also play up front. We prefer him on the wing", explained the coach. With the 28 minutes played against Barbastro, Ansu has barely accumulated 186 minutes of action this season, spread over 8 appearances.
The player from Bissau was only a starter against Sevilla, one of the clubs that showed the most interest in signing him during the last months of 2024. However, the winger's muscle problems cooled the interest from Sevilla, and for now, there are no formal offers for Fati, although several clubs are keeping an eye on his future. Barça's demanding schedule in January will allow him to continue having opportunities in La Liga and the Cup, which means there could be a last-minute offer before the winter transfer market closes.
