Eric García continues to attract 'suitors' ahead of the next summer market. The Barça defender also has options to return to England
Tottenham has set its sights on one of FC Barcelona's defenders. The latest reports indicate the interest of the 'spurs' in Eric García, one of the players expected to leave the Barça team next summer. Although the player from Martorell has been an important piece in 2024-25, the club needs to raise funds to improve its finances and, in defense, there are at least two players who can help with this mission (him and Andreas Christensen).
This season, the '24' has 3 goals and 1 assist in 33 matches (1,400 minutes) with Hansi Flick's team. The coach avoided his departure in January, but for the summer market he will let the player decide whether to renew or leave, as the coaching staff is aware of his potential and desire to be a regular starter. With Barça, although he has been important in the rotations, it is very difficult for him to become an undisputed starter at any point, even more so if the arrival of Jonathan Tah is finalized.
Tottenham will seek a low transfer fee for Eric García
However, the 'spurs' know very well that the defender's contract ends in 2026, so they will seek to negotiate a low transfer fee. Barça hopes to receive at least 15 million euros for Eric's transfer, but Tottenham would start negotiations with an offer in the range of 10-12 'kilos'. In the past, the London club ruled out negotiating with the 'culés' for the transfer of Clément Lenglet, due to the very high salary of the French center-back.
With García, however, the situation is different, as the player has the possibility to decide where to continue his career. The 24-year-old defender knows the Premier League well after his time at Manchester City (2018-2021), although he only played 35 matches with the first team. In that sense, it is likely that the player from Martorell prefers to stay in LaLiga. Girona and Real Sociedad have been the clubs that, so far, have shown the greatest interest in signing him this year.
