Bayern Munich has its sights set on Florian Wirtz. The Bavarians dream of the Leverkusen winger to strengthen their attack in the upcoming Club World Cup
Florian Wirtz's future strongly points to Bayern Munich for the 2025-26 season. Recently, two Bavarian executives expressed their desire to sign the 'crack' of Bayer Leverkusen, who is also on FC Barcelona's radar and has produced 27 goals in 33 matches for Xabi Alonso's team this season, with 15 goals scored and 12 assists in 2,530 minutes. Last season, his stats were very similar (18 goals and 20 assists in 49 matches), but the Munich team had other market priorities to attend to.
"If I can have a dream, then I would say that Florian Wirtz has to play at Bayern", began saying this week the honorary Bavarian president Uli Hoeness. In that sense, the club's sports director, Christoph Freund, assured that the Leverkusen winger "is always a topic of conversation because he is an extraordinarily good player". The 21-year-old player has a contract until 2027, but his club knows that it is very likely that the '10' will decide to leave if Xabi Alonso steps down this summer.
The Club World Cup, a key factor for Florian Wirtz's future
Initially, the San Sebastián coach would be Florentino Pérez's first option to replace Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the 2024-25 season. In fact, some sources close to Madrid believe that the refusal to bring in reinforcements in winter is directly related to Pérez's desire to bring Alonso for the Club World Cup, where the whites will share a group with Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Pachuca (Mexico), and RB Salzburg (Austria).
Likewise, Bayern Munich will try to finalize the signing of Florian Wirtz before the start of the tournament to be held in the United States. FIFA approved the opening of a special market for the 32 participating clubs during the first days of June, right after the current season ends. For Leverkusen, the transfer of the '10' must leave a minimum of 100 million euros in the bank, a figure that is hardly feasible for Barça. The Catalans are looking at other more profitable options (Nico Williams, Rafael Leao) and in signing a natural '9' (Viktor Gyökeres).
