Javi Guerra has made a quality leap with Valencia in 2025. Will FC Barcelona go for him in the upcoming summer transfer window?

At the end of the 2023/24 season, FC Barcelona seemed determined to pursue a defensive midfielder. However, the departure of Xavi Hernández and the subsequent arrival of Hansi Flick at the Blaugrana bench led the management to trust in the talent of the squad to fill the gap left by Sergio Busquets in 2023. Well, the appearances of Marc Bernal and Marc Casadó provided the team with the necessary balance to support Pedri González in the engine room, a task that Frenkie de Jong can also handle.

However, doubts about the continuity of the Dutchman open the debate about the need to pursue another '5' in the next transfer window. In LaLiga, one of the 'low-cost' alternatives that has been making waves in recent weeks is Javi Guerra. The 21-year-old midfielder has regained his best form with Valencia in 2025, following the arrival of coach Carlos Corberán. So far, the player has 1 goal and 3 assists in 29 matches (1,924 minutes) this season.

Should Barça sign Javi Guerra?

The Valencian player is under contract until 2027, and his market value reaches 20 million euros on Transfermarkt. His release clause is 100 'kilos', but the 'che' team can greenlight his departure for a figure close to 30M €, as 30% of his sporting rights belong to Villarreal, the team where he came from. The 'Yellow Submarine' agreed to let him go on a free transfer in 2019, but reserved that percentage for a future sale.

In 2024, Atlético de Madrid was strongly rumored as a possible destination for Javi, but ultimately there was no agreement between the parties. The player is characterized by his good foot and ability to recover balls, and he sometimes dares to step into the opponent's area. Not for nothing, he has scored 6 goals in 80 official matches with Valencia, a club that this season is clinging to survival to avoid the sporting collapse of the project led by Peter Lim.

If Barça had enough money in the bank after a potential departure of De Jong, the '8' from Mestalla would be an interesting sporting and financial bet in the long term. However, the club's confidence in Casadó and Bernal for the future is total.
