FC Barcelona still does not have certainty about the option of having João Cancelo for the 24/25 campaign, since his signing has become complicated in economic terms for the culé team. Furthermore, the club is not willing to assume costs that are outside its current financial possibilities
The possible union between João Cancelo and FC Barcelona seems to be increasingly in doubt. Although the Barcelona team appears to be interested in having the Portuguese player back for the 2024/25 season, it is evident that they will not rush to make an excessive expenditure to incorporate him into the team. In fact, the intention is for any negotiation to be conducted in economic terms that are viable for the Catalan club, with the preferred option being to secure his return through a loan.
However, this aspect is the main obstacle in these discussions, as Barcelona's desires clash with Manchester City's objectives. Although the Manchester team does not seem to have the greatest intention of including the Portuguese player in their sports project, they are aware of possessing a valuable asset for which they expect to receive around €30 million in a possible sale. This amount does not align with the plans of the team from the City of Barcelona, which has also not seriously considered the possibility of a loan with a mandatory purchase option.
Currently, since there is still no agreement between both institutions and apparently not with any other team, as Cancelo is fully focused on the option of returning to wear the blue and garnet jersey, the Portuguese player has had no choice but to reintegrate into Manchester City's training sessions. Last Tuesday, he was seen at the City Football Academy after enjoying a well-deserved break of at least three weeks following his participation in the Euro with the Portuguese national team.
Cancelo asks FC Barcelona to make a final effort for his incorporation
At this point, as suggested in 'SPORT', João still holds hope of returning to FC Barcelona. It is even said that he has asked the club for one last effort to unlock his situation, committing to try to persuade the 'Sky Blues' to soften their stance and allow his departure through a new loan. This would be very positive for the Barcelona team, which, despite having several options for the right-back position (Jules Koundé, Héctor Fort, Alex Valle y Julián Araujo), could benefit from Cancelo's hierarchy and experience, who can also perform as a left-back.
