Jonathan Tah does not disappear from the culé radar: Barça keeps the operation alive

The FC Barcelona remains interested in signing the German defender Jonathan Tah, 29 years old, whose contract with Bayer Leverkusen ends on June 30. An option that seemed discarded due to the large number of central defenders available in the culé squad, but which is now gaining momentum.

Jonathan Tah is a defender particularly liked by Hansi Flick. His signing would represent a market opportunity, as he would arrive as a free agent after deciding not to renew with Bayer Leverkusen.

This would allow the azulgrana team to strengthen without paying a transfer fee. However, the arrival of the German defender would necessarily imply the departure of some central defender to avoid 'overbooking' of players in that position.

Who would be the sacrificed one? Andreas Christensen, the main candidate

If the Barcelona closes the signing of Jonathan Tah soon,  all signs point to Andreas Christensen could be the major casualty. The '15' has spent a good part of the 2024-25 season injured, his contract expires in June 2026, and he still has considerable market value, so his departure cannot be ruled out.

On the other hand, Pau Cubarsí, Iñigo Martínez, Ronald Araujo seem to have their places secured for the upcoming season, as the Barcelona team did not hesitate to extend the contracts that link them to the institution. Likewise, Eric García could also continue, being a versatile option who can play as a defensive pivot, and he would be close to extending his link with Barça.

Tah prioritizes Barcelona, but it all depends on 'fair play'

Despite apparently having received financially superior offers, Jonathan Tah would have prioritized the conditions proposed by FC Barcelona. However, it is clear that, although the player wishes to join the Barcelona team and the team also wants to have his services, it will all depend on how the market develops, the club's ability to free up salary mass, and comply with the requirements of LaLiga's financial 'fair play' to register him.

This is a scenario full of uncertainty that will undoubtedly require the culé sports management to work intensively, as they do not want to miss an opportunity like this in the market.
