The FC Barcelona board plans to pursue another left-back in the upcoming summer transfer market. One of the 'low-cost' alternatives on the table is the Dutch Mitchel Bakker
FC Barcelona keeps the possibility of signing another left-back open for next summer. One of the latest names that appears on the culé radar is Mitchel Bakker, a player from Lille with a past at Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax, where he trained as a professional. According to 'El Nacional', the 24-year-old defender has reportedly been offered to Barça for the upcoming summer market.
Atalanta is aware of Barcelona's interest in acquiring a left-back capable of challenging Alejandro Balde for the starting position, and the Dutchman could be a viable alternative for the azulgrana team. Bakker could arrive in Barcelona for 7 million euros or through a loan, the route through which Lille signed him last summer. Previously, the player played 45 matches with PSG between 2019 and 2021, in addition to another 70 matches with Bayer Leverkusen, where he scored 5 goals and provided 7 assists.
Mitchel Bakker, a 'low-cost' alternative that can contribute significantly in attack
This performance led the Bergamasque team to pay 9.5 'million' for his transfer in 2023, but the defender had some clashes with coach Gian Piero Gasperini that ended his time at 'La Dea'. In the 2024-25 season, he has also not managed to secure a starting position under coach Génésio, but he has left good impressions in the Champions League against Real Madrid and Liverpool.
In both matches, he was a starter, fulfilling the mission of nullifying Endrick and Luis Díaz, respectively. Mitchel Bakker is a full-back who can also play comfortably as a winger or midfielder on both the left and right flanks. Not surprisingly, he has scored 3 goals in 21 matches (999 minutes) this season. For Barça, at the moment, there is full confidence in Gerard Martín, as demonstrated by the extension of his contract. However, for the upcoming market, signing another defender for the left flank is not ruled out.
