The great form of Mohamed Salah invites FC Barcelona and other top European clubs to consider signing him in 2025. The Egyptian would arrive at 'zero cost', as his contract ends in June
The Liverpool board is experiencing days of uncertainty during the always busy month of December for English clubs. Amid the large number of matches that the Premier League schedules for the end of the year, the 'reds' celebrate their league leadership and the great level shown by Arne Slot's team. However, happiness is not complete at Anfield Road due to the doubts surrounding the future of their main star, one of the wingers that FC Barcelona has been keeping an eye on for months.
Starting from January 1, Mohamed Salah will have full freedom to negotiate with any club. The Egyptian's contract ends at the end of the season and, for now, he has not spoken with the 'reds' management about signing a new contract. The '11' arrived in Merseyside in 2017 and has been the team's great leader since then. At 32 years old, 'Mo' is the only survivor of the attacking trio that lifted the Champions League in 2019, but he remains highly relevant in his statistics.
In the 2024/25 season, the player from Nagrig has scored 18 goals and provided 15 assists in 24 matches (1,970 minutes) with Arne Slot's team. In the Premier League, Salah maintains an impressive average of almost a goal per game (15 goals in 16 matches), surpassing Erling Haaland (13) and Cole Palmer (11). The possibility of signing him at 'zero cost' undoubtedly attracts Barça, although the Egyptian's position clashes with the new star of the Catalan team.
Lamine Yamal would hinder Salah's arrival in Barcelona
Throughout his career, 'Mo' has shone as a right winger, a position that has been undisputed in the blue and garnet team since Lamine Yamal's breakthrough. The player from Mataró has proven to be the offensive soul of the team and, at just 17 years old, he aims to lead the club's new sports project, which is why the management does not plan to sign any player with similar characteristics.
On the contrary, both the coaching staff and the management prioritize signing a left winger, a position where Raphinha and Dani Olmo have not found the consistency that Barça needs. The Brazilian, in fact, has performed better playing as an attacking midfielder/false '9', while the player from Terrassa has been somewhat subdued after his last injury.
In any case, Barça will continue to monitor Salah's future, a player with all the hierarchy and experience who is set to be one of the great 'bargains' of the upcoming summer market, as long as Liverpool does not convince him to renew before then. This season, the Egyptian earns around 21.2 million euros net per year, a salary that the 'reds' will try to significantly improve to retain him.
