Manchester United is closely following Frenkie de Jong's situation at FC Barcelona, a matter that is not entirely clear and that the 'Red Devils' would like to take advantage of to satisfy an old wish of coach Erik ten Hag
The Manchester United, likely motivated by the interest of their coach, Erik ten Hag, in having some of the 'gems' he had at Ajax, seems to be considerably interested in acquiring the services of the 27-year-old midfielder, Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch coach is eager to add the Arkel native to his squad to make him one of the midfield stars in the renewal of his sporting project.
In this regard, although the Barcelona team acknowledges that they have a top-level player in De Jong, it doesn't seem entirely closed to considering offers for him. Why? Given that he has not responded to the renewal proposal offered by the Barcelona side some time ago and his contractual agreement with the institution ends in 2026. Consequently, it is not surprising that Barcelona is willing to let him go this summer, with the aim of maximizing profit from a player whose current market value is 70 million euros according to 'Transfermarkt'. Though there is speculation that the team might aim to secure an amount higher than that.
Similarly, FC Barcelona is fully aware that the departure of the Dutchman would have a significant impact on the sporting level, as he is one of the best players in the world when in top form. Nevertheless, the central area of Barcelona's field currently has several high-level players who could compete for his position. Moreover, from a more rational standpoint, De Jong's departure would relieve the wage burden, as he is the highest-paid player in the Catalan squad, with earnings that, according to 'Capology' estimates, are around 37.5 million euros gross per season, not including bonuses or other incentives.
Manchester United Still Exploring Options with Frenkie de Jong
Now, returning to the interest of the 'Red Devils', as reported by the media outlet 'Manchester World', the Mancunians have made an approach to assess the situation of the Dutch player. Apparently, the English team is considering making an offer in the range of 30 to 40 million pounds (35-45 million euros), an amount that initially seems insufficient to secure the addition of the caliber of Frenkie de Jong, and that probably Barcelona would not be willing to accept if Old Trafford decides to present it.
