Marc Guiu has not found the desired continuity at Chelsea, which is why he could regret having left FC Barcelona, where he is betting on giving opportunities to young people

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The sporting future of Marc Guiu has taken a real turn in the last month. Why? It all comes down to the team change the forward opted to make during the past summer transfer window. The Granollers native decided to leave FC Barcelona, a club where he was highly regarded as the ideal candidate to reinforce the '9' position, and where he was thought to potentially become an important piece in the medium to long term, to embark on a new adventure at Chelsea.

The London-based team offered him a more lucrative financial proposal in terms of salary than Barcelona. Additionally, they apparently assured him a fixed place in the first team and, consequently, more opportunities to regularly see action in the top tier of football.

However, for Marc Guiu, things have not unfolded as initially presented. Why? Although he has accumulated some minutes under the guidance of Enzo Maresca (158 out of 720 possible), he is currently the forward who has spent the least time on the field within the 'Blue' team so far in the 2024/25 season. The Italian coach has prioritized fielding Senegalese Nicolás Jackson as the center forward, who has responded to his trust by being one of the leading goal scorers in the London squad, tallying four goals thus far.

Marc Guiu doesn't feature much in Enzo Maresca's plans

Now, returning to the topic of Marc Guiu, his situation at Chelsea has become peculiar, at least in terms of September. In the four matches played by Stamford Bridge's side so far this month, he has only participated in one.

In the first three encounters, he was not called up on two occasions (Crystal Palace on September 1 and West Ham on September 21), and in another, he was a substitute (Bournemouth on September 14). It wasn't until the match on September 24, in Chelsea's 5-0 victory against Barrow AFC (a club from the English fourth division) in the EFL Cup, that Enzo Maresca decided to give him a mere 14 minutes of play.

Is Marc Guiu regretting leaving FC Barcelona?

Based on this, and considering the success that several active young players have had at FC Barcelona in the first team, various sources suggest that Marc Guiu could be going through a phase of regret for prioritizing his move to the London club. There, besides having limited participation, he faces strong competition for his position, where other players seem to be more favored in the Italian coach's sports planning.

This contrasts with his initial goal of having more opportunities to showcase his football in the top tier, which apparently led him to leave Barça. At the Catalan club, although he probably wouldn't have been a starter this season, he could have had more playing opportunities, perhaps competing more evenly with Pau Víctor for the impact sub role in that position. However, as recently mentioned by Deco, Guiu "did not want to be a forward for FC Barcelona", thus prompting a change of scenery that, for now, doesn't seem to have entirely benefited him. Will he manage to reverse this negative trend? Only time will tell.
