The end of the summer transfer window confirmed the economic supremacy of English clubs in Europe. In the last three years, four of the five teams that have spent the most on transfers are from the Premier League, with Chelsea leading the ranking by a long way

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Chelsea have completed their third consecutive year as the undisputed leaders of the ranking of the biggest spenders in Europe. Since the arrival of the American consortium led by Todd Boehly, BlueCo, the Stamford Bridge club has invested more than 1.33 billion euros in reinforcements, with up to 90 signings that have a negative balance of -789.4 million between 2022/23 and 2024/25.

Behind the 'blue' team is Paris Saint Germain, with 771.4 million euros spent. The Parisians also register red numbers in the order of €430.6M, followed by Manchester United. The 'red devils' have accumulated 660 million spent, with losses exceeding €475M. The top 5 of the biggest spenders in the last three years is completed by two other members of the so-called 'big six' of the Premier League.

On the one hand, there is Tottenham, with around 600 million euros spent. The 'spurs' are not spared from the red numbers either, with a negative balance of -386.1M€. Arsenal is also on the list, which with Mikel Arteta in charge has spent 530.4 million euros. Since 2022, the 'gunners' have accumulated losses of 354.5M€.

Any LaLiga club appears in the top 20 in terms of spending on transfers

The top 10 is completed by West Ham (€485.5M), Bayern Munich (€476M), Al Hilal (€470M), Manchester City (€439.6M) and Nottingham Forest (€433.1M). Curiously, no Spanish team appears within the 20 clubs that have invested the most in reinforcements in the last three years, due to the current restrictions of LaLiga's 'Financial Fair Play'. The club that has spent the most money between 2022 and 2024 is Atlético de Madrid (24th place), with 269 million and a negative balance of -€43.7M.

A couple of places behind is FC Barcelona (26th), with a total of €259.1 million spent and losses of around €73.6M, since Barça's sales are around €185.2M in revenue. Behind Barça is Real Madrid, with an investment of 258.5 million in signings and losses equivalent to 143.3 million euros in the last three years.
