However, if desired, the club has a very attractive and economical option to recover its youth player. Do you want to know which one he is? We tell you at FCBN
If there is a culé youth academy player who found it fitting to leave FC Barcelona to rediscover his football, that was Óscar Mingueza. Hailing from Santa Perpetua de Moguda, he left the blaugrana squad in 2022 heading to Celta de Vigo, a team that became a highly beneficial destination to exploit his footballing qualities. At present, he has not only become one of the stars of the Vigo team and one of the most intriguing names in the beginning of LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25, but this has also earned him a recall to the Spanish national team, where he has received a new call-up for the September FIFA international matches.
Now, what has happened to the former Barcelona youth player who has experienced this significant increase in his sporting performances? Oscar has transitioned from being a defender to becoming a midfielder with more presence in advanced positions. What has this resulted in? Mingueza has developed a quite interesting goal-scoring and assisting facet, accumulating two goals and three assists in the four LaLiga matches played so far. These are quite intriguing numbers that, undoubtedly, if this upward trend continues, could draw the attention of the Barcelona team.
Fortunately for Barcelona, should they consider bringing back one of the young talents who have left their academy recently, they have a good option to do so. How? The answer lies in the advantageous contract under which the culés allowed the defender to join the Galician club in 2022.
The option Barcelona has to bring back Óscar Mingueza
Setting aside the fact that Barça holds half of the economic rights over Mingueza, meaning that they would be entitled to half of the financial benefits if Celta de Vigo decides to sell him, approximately the €20 million of his release clause, the Barcelona team has followed the strategy used with their recent young promises. Anticipating a potential exponential growth of this player to succeed again as a blaugrana, they have included in his sale contract a buy-back clause that will be valid until June 30, 2026.
In this regard, as suggested by Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona, if they were to bring back Mingueza, would have to pay the amount of nine million euros, one less than the initially stipulated 10 million. This is a gesture of goodwill, since the Barcelona team facilitated his departure at no cost initially. Will Barcelona try to reclaim their academy player? It's an option that has shown great versatility to strengthen the right-back position, the defense, and even the midfield area. Only time will tell if he can maintain the current level he is displaying.
