FC Barcelona remains on standby regarding the future of Mikayil Faye. The center-back has lost prominence at Rennes, and José Mourinho could take him to Fenerbahce
José Mourinho could 'rescue' Mikayil Faye in the final stretch of the winter transfer market. Recent reports indicate Fenerbahce's interest in the former FC Barcelona defender, who has had a challenging first half of the season at Stade Rennes. For Barça, this operation could be key to attempt to finalize the signing of Marcus Rashford before the transfer window closes next Monday, February 3 at 23:59.
This Tuesday, Fenerbahce finalized the signing of defender Diego Carlos, former center-back of Sevilla. The Brazilian signed for three and a half seasons, until June 2029, but Mourinho wants to strengthen his defense and hopes to add at least one more center-back. Milan Skriniar (PSG) would be the next target for the Turks, along with Faye, who would also be a personal bet of the Portuguese coach, understanding the need for young alternatives in a very experienced defense.
Barcelona's dealings with Mika Faye: the club has a buy-back option
With his transfer to Rennes last summer for 10.3 million euros, Barcelona retained 25% of a future sale, keeping the possibility of cashing in if the French club decides to transfer him to Fenerbahce this January. Initially, the most feasible scenario would be a loan, as the French are unlikely to obtain a figure higher than the current value of the defender (10M€).
Moreover, the Catalans have secured a buy-back option for 25 'kilos'. Faye signed with Rennes for five seasons, until June 2028, but has not had the expected prominence with Luka Elsner's team. So far, he has accumulated 665 minutes of action spread over 10 matches (6 as a starter), but this month he only played against Nice (65') on the 3rd. In the Coupe de France, he was a substitute in the defeat against Triyes (1-0).
