Hansi Flick doubts Neymar's signing for Barça: Is his age a problem?
The name of Neymar Jr. has once again hovered over the Spotify Camp Nou in recent days. The Brazilian star, who is gradually starting to find his best form with Santos, dreams of returning to Europe and, above all, of wearing the FC Barcelona jersey again, a desire that has remained alive since his surprising departure from the team in the summer of 2017.
After his stint in Saudi Arabia was marred by injuries, the forward has focused on getting fit and regaining prominence to enjoy one last dance with Brazil at the 2026 World Cup. To achieve this goal, the player has signed a six-month contract with the 'Peixe', meaning he will be a free agent at the end of the season.
For this reason, Ney's camp has offered his services to Barça, receiving a blunt response from the club: "first score 15 goals with Santos and then we will consider your signing". Despite this, the reality is that within the club, his arrival is not seen as a priority, although Hansi Flick's stance could ultimately rule out his possible return.
Hansi Flick is not convinced about Neymar's signing
According to 'SPORT', the Barça coach has been reluctant to incorporate Neymar into his squad, as the player's age and physical condition raise many doubts about his fit and performance in a system where youth and intensity are the main pillars of the team's success. Furthermore, the sports management has not officially discussed his signing, which highlights that this option is still unclear in the Catalan capital.
Even though the Brazilian could join Flick's ranks at no transfer cost and with a reduced salary, the offices of the Catalan institution believe there are more important objectives on their list and are working with the idea of strengthening the squad with players who can elevate the quality of the long-term project.
In fact, when asked about it at the press conference before the Benfica-Barça match in the Champions League, the Barça coach deflected questions by stating, "It is not my job. I focus on this team. We have great opportunities and we need to maintain them. This is Deco's job". As things stand, Ney's alternative is not on the table today, and his return to Barcelona seems distant, although a plot twist cannot be ruled out in the coming months if the club considers that his signing could be beneficial for the team.
