Bayern Munich is looking at Nico Williams as their major reinforcement, while Barça is watching him closely.

Nico Williams is starting to turn around his complicated start to the season. Injuries and external pressures seemed to directly affect the Navarrese player during the first half of the season, but he has shown a new face in 2025. In fact, the forward was the standout player in Athletic Club's qualification for the quarter-finals of the Europa League, scoring a brace against Roma in the second leg of the round of 16 to secure his team's passage.

The future of the player, meanwhile, remains uncertain. The winger was one of the major attractions last summer, as he was very close to joining Hansi Flick at FC Barcelona. Although he ultimately decided to stay under Ernesto Valverde at San Mamés, the top clubs in the continent are still tracking him, and his file will most likely reopen starting in July.

In this regard, the German newspaper 'BILD' has reported that Bayern Munich is more interested than ever in signing him. The Bavarians have had Nico on their radar for several months and are preparing to go all out for his signing in the upcoming summer window, taking advantage of the fact that his release clause remains close to 60 million euros, a 'bargain' price for a player of the quality of the Pamplona native.

Nico Williams is Uncertain About His Future

The Bavarians are laying the foundations for the future of their project under the guidance of Vincent Kompany. The Munich club has already secured the continuity of key players like Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich, and, pending official confirmation, Manuel Neuer, but they are also looking for young talents that can elevate the quality of their squad, and Nico fits perfectly into the profile the club is seeking.

However, before taking on the signing of the player, the offices at Allianz Arena will need to solve their salary 'puzzle', as the salaries of the squad are somewhat outdated and inherited from previous eras. If they manage to resolve this 'hurdle', the Germans will be serious candidates in the race for Williams.

A race that clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea, in addition to Barça, are also part of. The Blaugrana, for now, are still analyzing all their options to strengthen the left wing, and although the Euro 2024 champion with Spain is on the list of potential signings for the sports management, the board no longer considers him a priority and his signing is not clear.

Nico, for his part, is still not making a definitive decision regarding his continuity at Athletic Club. The player admitted to being very happy and comfortable in Bilbao and, as of today, he would not consider packing his bags for a new destination. However, the insistence of these European giants could reopen the debate about his future at San Mamés, so the 'saga' could write a new chapter in the coming months.
