Míchel insists on 'fishing' for FC Barcelona to give Girona the solidity it showed last season. Surprisingly, the Spanish coach would like to get Pablo Torre back

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Girona is preparing a major offensive in the winter market to add at least two or three reinforcements to return the team led by Míchel to the forefront of LaLiga. The Catalans were third last season, but are currently tenth as a result of 5 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses in 13 games.

In that sense, the Madrid coach of the 'albirrojos' seems determined to go for one of the players who arrived on loan from Barça in 2023/24 in the next transfer window. Surprisingly, the latest rumors do not indicate the 'albirrojo' interest in Eric García, who has been rumored a lot since the summer to return to Montilivi.

Now, Girona would be following in the footsteps of Pablo Torre. The Cantabrian did not manage to fully settle into Míchel's scheme last season, but he has left very good feelings in his few appearances under Hansi Flick. At the moment, the midfielder has 3 goals and 1 assist in 6 games (209 minutes) with Barça.

Girona has good options to convince Pablo Torre in January

Soto de la Marina made his debut as a scorer in the 'little hand' against Valladolid (1-5) and once again wrote his name on the scoreboard in another beating against Sevilla (5-1), in that last game scoring a doublet. However, since his stellar appearance against Seville (on October 20) he has not had any more minutes in either the League or the Champions League.

And the returns of Gavi, Fermín López, Frenkie de Jong and Dani Olmo have closed the doors to Pablo who didn't have much filming in Montilivi last season either. In total, there were 29 (802 minutes) games he played in 2023/24 in the team led by Míchel, adding just one goal (in the Cup) and a couple of assists.

Even so, the Spanish coach is confident that Torre's possible arrival will give a new lease of life to a Girona team that this season has significantly reduced its scoring production. The team has only scored 16 goals in 13 LaLiga games, half of what it had scored at this point in the tournament in 2023/24 (31).

Hence, beyond the interest in Eric García (the defense has also been a headache for the 'albirrojos'), the coaching staff now changes its market plan for January. Pablo made it clear in a recent interview that he does not rule out leaving Barcelona in the next transfer window, although he thanked Flick for his trust despite the tough competition in the Barça midfield.

For this reason, Girona will make an effort to recover a midfielder who is still very young (21 years old) and with notable projection. Not in vain, the culés paid 5 million euros to Racing de Santander for his transfer in 2022.
