Despite rumours that he is leaving Barça, Andreas Christensen has assured that his future would still be with Hansi Flick's team
In the midst of his recovery process from his left Achilles injury, Andreas Christensen has given an interview to the Danish channel 'TV2 Sport' and has confirmed his position regarding a possible exit from Barcelona. The player has been the subject of several rumours that place him outside the Catalan club, but he has taken it upon himself to 'put an end' to these speculations by revealing his intentions for the future.
"You can't do anything but smile when you don't hear anything. I can only speak from the conversations I've had with the club and so far they've only told me to recover well and that they're looking forward to me returning to the pitch," began the centre-back, whose contract expires in 2026.
"If I stay at Barcelona? Yes, of course"
However, the 28-year-old footballer is aware that he has lost weight in Hansi Flick's scheme, since the duo formed by Pau Cubarsí and Iñigo Martínez is increasingly established and Ronald Araújo is very close to returning to the shorts and fighting for a place in the starting eleven.
Christensen prepares to take on the challenge of fighting for a starting place
Despite this, Christensen takes the competition as motivation and made it clear that, although it will be difficult, he will try to make a place for himself in the starting lineup. "I'm going into it with the attitude that it will be difficult. They've done incredibly well and it's up to me to beat them. The ultimate goal is to come back and play as many games as possible, but it will be difficult," he admitted.
Finally, the Dane assured that he does not rule out playing as a central midfielder, although his preferred position is centre-back. "I haven't spoken to him (Flick) about tactical matters for a while, but I played 6 games in pre-season" and in some of these he played in midfield, "so it could well be an option; but I think I will mainly play as a central defender. It's also where I prefer to play," he concluded.
