Despite the availability of a significant number of assets in the midfield of FC Barcelona, there are still some players being linked to the club as potential future additions, based on their characteristics and the coach's preference. Among these, the case of 23-year-old pivot Angelo Stiller stands out.
The German midfielder, currently at Stuttgart, started being linked to Barcelona during the last summer transfer window, coinciding with the arrival of Hansi Flick at the Barcelona helm. However, no offer was made for him, apparently due to most of the operations that Barça did not finalize being hindered by financial restrictions imposed by the club's 'fair play'.
In light of this situation, Hansi Flick decided to focus his sporting project on enhancing academy players like Marc Bernal, Casadó, and giving more prominence to others like Pedri González. Nonetheless, the name of Angelo Stiller has regained relevance, as the Catalan team has shown the need for classic pivots to provide depth in that area of the field.
Although Barcelona has numerous midfielders, most of them have a more offensive profile, with better ability in the final third of the pitch and feeling less comfortable in the role of holding midfielders accustomed to operating at the base of the midfield. In this context, Angelo Stiller seems to fit this requirement perfectly.
Stuttgart Reportedly Initiating Talks to Renew Angelo Stiller
However, making an offer for the midfielder could prove challenging for Barcelona initially. Why? Everything indicates that Stiller, with a contract at Stuttgart running until June 30, 2027 and a market value of 32 M€ (according to 'Transfermarkt'), is reportedly in talks to extend his contract with his current club.
The head coach of the Stuttgart team, Fabian Wohlgemuth, shared the news in an interview with 'Sky Sports Germany', highlighting progress in negotiations to renew the contract of the German midfielder: "We have been in talks for some time. We will make it public when things become more concrete. This process could take some time. He is one of our most important players, and of course, our goal is to extend his contract."
Will Barcelona Join the 'Race' for the German Midfielder?
Although the renewal is not confirmed, it is clear that discussions are ongoing, which would complicate the option of Angelo Stiller joining Barcelona. It is likely that, if the renewal is finalized, the duration of the contract will be extended and the club will have more room to negotiate for compensation in line with his sporting value.
Furthermore, the inclusion of a release clause in the new contract is not ruled out, in order to establish a high fixed value for the German international, who is not only of interest to Barcelona, but also to other top clubs worldwide.
