FC Barcelona is closely monitoring the situation of Viktor Gyökeres at Sporting Club de Portugal. Recently, the Portuguese club has established a new starting price for the Swedish player. Which is it? We tell you at FCBN
The FC Barcelona is looking to strengthen its forward line with a top player. To achieve this, it is crucial that they formalize their ability to operate under the 1:1 rule, which would allow them to participate regularly in the transfer market and consider making a significant investment in one of the best 'number 9s' in the world.
This player must be a stellar successor to Robert Lewandowski, who is increasingly nearing the end of his time as a Barcelona forward. Despite this, 'Lewy' continues to demonstrate his high level of play with the 25 goals he has already scored in the 2024-25 season.
Under this premise, one of the names apparently on the list of potential signings by Barcelona's sporting direction is that of Viktor Gyökeres. Why? Because the 26-year-old Swedish forward has established himself as a prolific goal scorer, amassing an impressive 31 goals in 29 matches in the 2024-25 season. This is complemented by six assists.
However, there was a significant obstacle to negotiating for the Stockholm native, who finished 2024 as the top goal scorer of the year with a total of 62 goals in 63 games: the substantial economic investment estimated to be necessary for his signing. It had been mentioned that Gyökeres' release clause was around €100 million, a sum that Sporting CP would demand to let him go, leaving little room for negotiation.
The new 'bargain' price at which Sporting CP would let Gyökeres go
However, it appears that Gyökeres' departure could be more economical and therefore more affordable for Barcelona and other interested teams. As reported by the Portuguese newspaper 'Record', the Lisbon-based team has reportedly verbally agreed with Viktor to value his transfer between €70 and €75 million starting from the next summer transfer window.
It is suggested that this agreement with Sporting CP also aims to retain the Swedish 'killer' at the Portuguese club during this winter transfer market. It is worth noting that there were speculations about Gyökeres' potential departure in this transfer window, as he apparently was not satisfied with the direction of the club's sporting project following the departure of Rúben Amorin as coach, during a period in which the Lisbon club faced a series of negative results.
Now we will have to wait and see how this operation unfolds, considering that Gyökeres is also of interest to other clubs such as Bayern Munich or Manchester United, teams with strong financial positions and sporting projects that could offer him a leading role. In this context, Barcelona may explore new avenues to reduce the demands for the Swede and bring this negotiation to a successful conclusion. Will they succeed?
