Isak's signing by Barça could be delayed until 2026: what factors are at play?

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Alexander Isak is the big dream of FC Barcelona. This season, the Swede has fully exploded at Newcastle, accumulating 23 goals and 5 assists in the 33 matches he has played so far, and he has emerged as the main candidate of the sports management and, above all, of Joan Laporta to take over from Robert Lewandowski in the center of the Blaugrana attack.

At Can Barça, he is very much liked, among other reasons, for his versatility, being able to play at the highest level both in the center of the attack and on the wing. The 25-year-old Nordic, for his part, would welcome a return to LaLiga, where he already shone in the ranks of Real Sociedad, and he would have already given the 'OK' to the Catalans in a meeting held with the club at the end of last year, which served as the first contact between both parties.

However, the operation to sign Isak will not be easy at all. Firstly, the Magpies have no intention of parting with their star player and would demand a figure between 150 and 180 million euros to transfer him. Additionally, LaLiga will have to accept the registration of the player's contract, which would be one of the most important in the team, so to achieve his signing this summer, many factors would need to align in favor of Barça.

Barça does not rule out going for Isak in 2026

For this reason, 'El Nacional.cat' has reported that the club is already considering postponing the signing of the Swede for another year, until the summer window of 2026. Laporta does not want to make a hasty decision that could compromise the club's economic future, so he would prefer to exercise patience for a season to then, under more favorable conditions, pursue the forward with greater certainty.

This year of margin would benefit the Catalans in various ways. First, because Lewandowski's contract expires at the end of the 25/26 season and his possible departure would free up a significant amount of salary mass. Furthermore, given the very high probability of winning titles this season and the next, the club's finances would be much healthier, allowing them to handle the operation with a more significant margin of maneuver.

Moreover, in 2026, Isak will be 26 years old, the perfect age to make the definitive leap to a club of the magnitude of Barça and lead the offensive project with the maturity necessary to assume this role. The player is under contract until 2028, but he would be attracted by the possibility of leaving Newcastle if it is to join an ambitious project like that of Flick, which is why he could wait another season to fulfill this goal.

Patience will be crucial in this operation, but the Blaugrana are convinced that the wait will be worth it. Clubs like Liverpool or Arsenal would try to attract the player during this time, but at Spotify Camp Nou they trust in the striker's desire to wear the Blaugrana jersey to make this dream come true.
