FC Barcelona experienced an unexpected absence during training this Friday. In that work session directed by Hansi Flick, the Danish defender was noted to be missing. The reason? We explain it to you at FCBN
The FC Barcelona training session this Friday aimed to finalize the necessary adjustments for the matchday 2 of LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25 that will take place this Saturday at 7:00 PM against Athletic Club at Montjuïc. However, there was an unexpected absence during this workday.
In addition to the already expected absences of players like Mika Faye, who despite not training due to waiting to finalize his link with Stade Rennes, being present at the Joan Gamper Sports City, and Vitor Roque, who is in negotiations to finalize his loan to Real Betis, the Barça training session suffered another significant absence. This time, one of the missing pieces in the workday of the culé team was Andreas Christensen.
What happened to Andreas Christensen?
The Danish defender, whose future is shrouded in speculation, could not participate in Friday's training due to a purely physical reason. According to several reports, Christensen's absence was due to physical discomfort in the Achilles tendon, which prevented him from stepping onto the field and kept him doing exercises in the gym.
It is important to remember that this has been a recurring issue for the former Chelsea player since last season. In fact, this same situation prevented him from playing in the matches of matchdays 29 and 30 of LaLiga EA Sports 2023/24 against Atlético de Madrid and UD Las Palmas respectively, as well as in the March FIFA international break, depriving him of the opportunity to participate in the Danish national team friendlies against Switzerland and the Faroe Islands.
The Dane, a doubt for FC Barcelona's match against Athletic
Now it remains to be seen whether he will be able to be called up for the match against the Basque team, which would mean missing his first match of the 2024/25 season. It is worth mentioning that Andreas Christensen was present in FC Barcelona's debut in LaLiga EA Sports 24/25 at Mestalla against Valencia CF. Although he was not part of the starting eleven, he came on in the 64th minute to replace a cautioned Pau Cubarsí, becoming one of the defensive pillars alongside Iñigo Martínez.
