Ronald Araujo's continuity at FC Barcelona is assured, at least, until the end of the 2024-25 season. However, the club hopes to resolve his renewal soon with a significant improvement in his salary
The FC Barcelona board has convinced Ronald Araujo to reject the offer from Juventus to leave in the winter market. However, the future of the 'charrúa' is still not 100% assured, so the azulgrana team plans a 'summit' in the coming days to advance his renewal. The defender seems clear that, from now until summer, the best option is to stay at Barça to fight for a starting position and help the team go for the treble, but he has not decided whether to extend his contract, which ends in 2026.
In this regard, the culé offices are already working on a proposal that convinces the player to stay many more years in Barcelona. Juve tempted the center-back with a significant salary increase compared to the 3.5 million euros net (around 7 'kilos' gross per season) that he currently earns in Catalonia. Therefore, the azulgrana team understands that the time has come to adjust Rivera's salary to match his status.
However, both Joan Laporta and Deco are clear that the negotiation with Araujo's representatives will not be easy. Although Andrés Espinosa, the player's agent, recently stated that his client's priority is to stay at Barça, he was negotiating with Juventus and other teams while delaying discussions with the azulgrana board to finalize his renewal. This leads the club to leave the player's future in his hands, but not before presenting him with an attractive proposal, along with public support for betting on his continuity.
Barça clears doubts: Ronald Araujo's renewal is a priority
Ronald is currently the first captain of Barça due to Ter Stegen's injury, and both the locker room and the fans have supported him after the interest from Juve became known. Likewise, the coaching staff has publicly backed him, and in light of Iñigo Martínez's absence, Hansi Flick did not hesitate for a moment to give him the starting position. "He is one of the best defenders in the world. I want him on my team, and I know he wants to be here too," the German stated at the press conference following the 'manita' against Betis.
Laporta did the same when speaking about the Uruguayan international. "Araujo wants to stay at Barça. People can be calm. Journalists invent many things, but he is clear about where he wants to be, and that is here", the president pointed out. Thus, in the coming days there will be a 'summit' to define the future of the center-back, at least until next summer. What is completely ruled out by both parties is starting the 2025-26 season without having resolved his renewal or definitive transfer.
