Today, one of the names that is likely still grabbing attention in the free agency is that of Sergio Ramos. This veteran, hailing from Camas, boasts experience of over 996 matches between clubs (816) and the national team (180). At 38 years old and after his stint at Sevilla during the 2023/24 season, he has yet to find a new team in the last summer transfer window.
Consequently, he is currently waiting to continue showcasing his football at a professional level. To stay fit, he continues to train, which he regularly shares on his social media.
Now, interestingly, an opportunity may arise soon. How is this possible? One of Europe's top clubs, which has had a strong start in the 2024/25 season, maintaining an unbeaten streak after eight matches (five wins and three draws), might consider him as an experienced and emergency option to strengthen their defensive line. An element that has consistently proven he can perform with the required level of skill.
Juventus Reportedly Interested in Signing Sergio Ramos
In this regard, as reported by the Italian outlet 'Tuttosport,' Juventus of Turin reportedly has Sergio Ramos on their agenda. Why? This decision would come in response to a need arising from the recent injury of one of their starting defenders, Gleison Bremer, who unfortunately suffered an anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus tear in his left knee. As a result, he will miss the remainder of this season, leaving Juve with just three natural options to cover that position: Pierre Kalulu (24), Federico Gatti (26), and Danilo (33).
Faced with this situation, it would not be surprising if Juventus decided to add a top-level player like Sergio Ramos, despite his age. However, it is evident that, as indicated from Italy, the Camas native is not the only name that the 'Vecchia Signora' is contemplating.
Since it is not a transfer window period, Juventus can only turn to free agency to strengthen their squad. Other names being mentioned are Simon Kjaer (35) and Konstantinos Manolas (33), both with experience in Serie A at AC Milan and Roma, respectively. Additionally, Joel Matip (33) is cited as another interesting option available in the free agent market.
'Juve' Could Be a Great Destination for the Defender
At this point, it will be interesting to see if the club ultimately decides to explore options in the free agent market to bolster their defense. Should they choose to sign Sergio Ramos, it would be an invaluable opportunity for the player to prove he still has much to offer in elite football. It would also confirm that rejecting offers from clubs in countries like Saudi Arabia, the United States, and even Brazil was the right decision in favor of a more renowned football destination.
A potential move to Serie A would mark the third major challenge in Sergio Ramos' career, following his successful spells in LaLiga and Ligue 1. Italian football, known for its rigorous and technical defensive focus, could be the perfect environment for the Andalusian to mesh with his style of play.
