Barça dreams of signing Viktor Gyökeres, but Lewandowski's performance in the remainder of the season will determine the club's roadmap
Viktor Gyökeres is one of the favourites for FC Barcelona to reinforce their attack. At 26 years old, the Swede is having a successful season at Sporting CP and the continent's big clubs are preparing to try to sign him, which would be around 60-70 million euros, next summer.
At Can Barça they are closely following the situation of the forward and must decide whether they will face his signing or turn the page. According to 'SPORT', the Catalans have already had contact with both the Portuguese club and the player's entourage, but have not yet made a concrete decision and Robert Lewandowski would be the culprit.
Lewandowski's 'rebirth' conditions Gyökeres' arrival
And it is that under the orders of Hansi Flick, the Pole is experiencing a second Juventus. At 36 years old, the Barça star has scored 17 goals in just 15 games and when he reaches 55% of games played this season, his contract with the Catalan club will be automatically extended until June 30, 2026.
The performance of the '9' culé from now until the end of the season will mark the roadmap for Barça. If 'Lewy' maintains the brutal scoring pace he will have everything in his favour to be the starting '9' next season. If this scenario is confirmed, the Blaugrana club will have to consider the possibility of signing Gyökeres as well, whose signing would be in 'check' since the club would think twice about making such a significant investment for a player who would arrive with a secondary role.
On the contrary, if Robert suffers a 'drop' in level in the second half of the season, the Catalans would be tempted to try to agree on the attacker's departure. MLS and Saudi Arabia are waiting in the wings for their chance to convince the Pole with a million-dollar salary. However, it would be the striker who would have all the power to decide on his future.
As things stand, in the offices of the Spotify Camp Nou they aim to prolong the 'soap opera' of the centre forward as long as possible. The longer Gyökeres takes to decide his future, the better for the interests of the team, as they will have more options to move or not to sign when they know with certainty Lewandowski's intentions, although a hypothetical coexistence of both for a season should not be ruled out.
