Robert Lewandowski does not see himself leaving Barcelona in the medium term. The Pole wants to stay at the club until 2027
Robert Lewandowski is experiencing a second youth under Hansi Flick at FC Barcelona. The Pole has already scored 19 goals in 17 games and has established himself as the best '9' in the world today. At 36 years old, the striker feels very comfortable in Barcelona and is looking to stay in the elite of world football, so his goal is to extend his relationship with the club beyond what was planned.
'Lewy's' contract expires on July 1, 2025, although if he ends up playing 50% of the games this season, it will automatically be extended for another year. The goalscorer is a regular for the coach in his ideal lineup, and, as of today, has been a starter in all the games that Barça has played this season, which is why his renewal until 2026 is practically a fact.
Lewandowski wants to stay at Barça until 2027
However, the Pole is going further and would like to extend his commitment until 2027, ending his journey at the club at 39 years of age. A decision that Barça see with good eyes, especially if his numbers next year at this stage of the season are similar to those of now, since it would give the sports management room to find a replacement for him and also to recover financially until they can undertake a major operation.
Despite this, this scenario could have a big downside for the Catalans. Viktor Gyökeres is one of the big favourites to reinforce the team's attack, but if Lewandowski ends up fulfilling his wish, the signing of a new top-level player like the Swede becomes complicated.
The Catalans consider that it would be difficult to make two top centre forwards coexist, since this would mean having to leave one of the two on the bench. However, it will be Robert's performance in the coming months that will set the club's roadmap, where they would be delighted to continue counting on the Pole as long as he justifies his stay with goals.
