Ronald Araujo spoke with 'Movistar+' after FC Barcelona's thrashing of Barbastro (0-4). The Uruguayan left his renewal 'up in the air', although he made it clear that he hopes to resolve his future soon
FC Barcelona thrashed UD Barbastro (0-4) on Saturday in Ronald Araujo's official debut this season. The center-back returned to play after 182 days and had a very good match, assisting Eric García for the first goal. After the thrashing in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey, the '4' spoke about his renewal, one of the priority issues for Barça in the first half of 2025.
Although the club hopes to extend the 'charrúa's' contract soon, the defender was much more cautious when referring to his future. "Will I stay 100% at Barça? We are talking, let's see how things progress. We hope it can be resolved", commented the player from Rivera, who also made it clear that, for now, he only thinks about being able to play and have good feelings on the field. In that sense, he valued his performance and that of the team in Huesca.
Araujo, happy about his return, but worried about the 'Olmo case'
"We are happy about the victory and I am happy to be back playing after a long time. It was a difficult pitch, but we entered very focused. I didn't expect to play the full 90 minutes, but I'm happy. We knew this break would be good for us to recover and work well", added Ronald in his chat with 'Movistar+'. On the other hand, the Barça captain also did not shy away from discussing the current topic at Can Barça: the renewals of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor.
"It's a distasteful issue for our teammates, but we hope it can be resolved", Ronald commented. He also assured that, as captain, "he has tried to calm both players", as he understands the difficulty of the situation. "We are a bit worried because they are two very important players for us", pointed out the Uruguayan international. For Barça, the next step to try to resolve the 'soap opera' with LaLiga and the RFEF is to request a precautionary measure from the Superior Sports Council (CSD), a matter that must be resolved this Wednesday morning.
"Olmo and Pau Víctor? We hope the club can resolve it...".
