FC Barcelona is attentive to the situation of Daniel Muñoz, the right side of Crystal Palace, who has established himself as one of the best in his position in the Premier League

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona, although perhaps not urgently, is in search of an asset that can strengthen the right-back position. This is based on the fact that in that area, Hansi Flick currently has two elements: an undisputed starter who plays almost every game, such as Jules Koundé, and an alternative like Héctor Fort, possibly with less experience in top-tier football.

Faced with this situation, it is not surprising to think that the Blaugrana team wants to have a player in their squad who can compete for the position with the French right-back. It is clear that Koundé is one of the best in the world currently, but he requires an established backup, either for necessary rotation or in case the Parisian defender needs to be replaced due to injury.

With this goal in mind, it has been mentioned that FC Barcelona is interested, for example, in Marc Pubill, right-back of UD Almería and one of the great promises of Spanish football. However, apparently, this is not the only name on the agenda of the Catalan club's sports management, as a new name has recently been added: Daniel Muñoz, from Crystal Palace.

Barcelona would have to face two 'top' competitors in the 'race' for Daniel Muñoz

This information comes from the Colombian news channel 'Antena 2', which suggests that FC Barcelona, along with other clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City, would be interested in the 'cafetero' right-back, who at 28 years old has stood out as one of the most eye-catching players in Oliver Glasner's team this 2024-25 season, scoring two goals and providing three assists in 23 matches, being one of the best in his position in the Premier League.

Daniel Muñoz is known for being a full-back with great defensive abilities, aggressive and intense in cutting off opponent's dangerous plays, very fast and timely in attack. Additionally, he has a contract with Crystal Palace until 2027, providing some room for negotiation for a possible transfer. It is also worth noting that his market value, according to 'Transfermarkt', is 25 million euros.

Could the Catalan club be the favorite if they launch a bid for the Colombian?

At this point, FC Barcelona could have some favoritism in the operation for Daniel Muñoz, due to the apparent connection the Colombian player has with the Blaugrana club. Upon making the move to Europe, the Amalfi native expressed that it would be a dream to join the Catalan team: "For me, it will be a great projection, this league can give me very good things to improve. And why not think and visualize that I can reach a league like the Premier League or the Spanish one because my dream is to play for Barcelona," the full-back mentioned in 2020 after leaving Atlético Nacional to join KRC Genk.

It is also worth highlighting his admiration for Barça, which dates back a long time, being captivated by the magic of one of the best exponents of 'Joga Bonito' who wore the blaugrana jersey. "As a child, my idol was always Ronaldinho when he played for Barcelona. In my youth teams, I never played as a full-back, I was always a winger and I looked at players who were game-changers and as a child, I only watched Ronaldinho. When I started playing as a full-back, I looked at Dani Alves, his movements, how he attacked and defended, so he also became an idol in my position," he concluded.

In any case, it will be interesting to see how this operation unfolds, as Daniel Muñoz is in no hurry to decide his future, which could possibly take a turn during the summer transfer window of 2025. Barcelona will need to be especially vigilant if they want to secure the services of the Amalfi-born player, who has established himself as the regular right-back for the Colombian national team and could be an important addition to reinforce the sporting project of the Catalan club, provided it fits the right price.
