FC Barcelona would not frown upon exploring the option of signing one of the Premier League's outstanding young goalkeepers. Will you try it?
The FC Barcelona, despite the interesting level that Iñaki Peña is showing as a goalkeeper for the team, apparently has not ruled out continuing to evaluate alternatives in the market to strengthen the goalkeeper position, not only thinking about the present, but also with an eye on the future, aiming to generate healthy competition for the position.
In this regard, the option that seems to be pleasing to the Barcelona sporting direction is that of the Porto goalkeeper, Diogo Costa. However, since this is a negotiation involving financially significant figures, there may be some reluctance, although not completely ruled out.
Bart Verbruggen, the new option being monitored by Barcelona to strengthen the goalkeeper position
Given this premise, it is common for FC Barcelona to consider other alternatives in the market, some with more strength than others. On this occasion, the name that is gaining prominence is that of Bart Verbruggen, a 22-year-old Dutch goalkeeper currently playing for Brighton & Hove Albion and reportedly gaining ground in Barcelona's sports planning, as reported by 'SPORT'.
Verbruggen, hailing from Zwolle, emerges as a high-level alternative to consider for Barcelona. Despite his young age, he has secured a place in the Dutch national team, already accumulating 17 matches played for the 'Oranje'. Furthermore, thanks to his performances at Brighton & Hove Albion, where he is under contract until June 30, 2028, he has shown a performance that supports his undeniable potential.
The arguments supporting Verbruggen's signing
Verbruggen is a tall goalkeeper (standing at 1.94 meters) who, despite his height, possesses cat-like reflexes and a notable ability to intercept aerial balls, combined with great precision in playing with his feet to start plays from the back, a trait many compare to that of Manuel Neuer.
It is important to note that he does not have a release clause, so if Barcelona wants to make a move for him, they would have to negotiate with Brighton, the team that acquired him in 2023 from RSC Anderlecht for around €20 million. It is likely that this price may be insufficient to convince the 'Seagulls', who could demand a much higher sum for a player who is clearly experiencing a significant increase in his market value.
