FC Barcelona would be considering a possible exchange during this winter market that would involve one of its most recently questioned assets: Frenkie de Jong, but... For whom?

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The future of Frenkie de Jong at FC Barcelona does not seem to be very clear. While, on one hand, the agent of the Dutch player, Ali Dursun, expressed positive feelings about a possible stay of '21' at the Culé team, saying that "both parties are happy with each other. Who knows, maybe we will stay connected for longer," on the other hand, recently the midfielder made statements that left his future more uncertain than ever. Why? Because the native of Arkel admitted that "if I felt that I could not contribute enough, or if the team cannot compete, I would leave".

For this reason, Frenkie de Jong has become one of the main candidates to be transferred by FC Barcelona. The former Ajax player has lost prominence in Hansi Flick's sports project, largely due to not reaching his full potential due to physical setbacks in his right ankle.

Furthermore, the fact that his contract with the Culé club has not been renewed (it ends on June 30, 2026), has led to speculations about his future. Additionally, it is worth noting that he is one of the highest-paid players at Barcelona despite not having an indisputable role.

Faced with this situation, it is not surprising that the Catalan team is considering options to let him go, even during the newly opened winter market. In fact, it seems that the Blaugrana squad is already exploring the possibility of benefiting from letting go of Frenkie de Jong.

FC Barcelona would be interested in a swap: Frenkie de Jong for...

Now, as reported by 'El Nacional.cat', Barcelona is considering with special interest a new destination for Frenkie de Jong: Bayern Munich. The Bavarian team is looking to strengthen its midfield and could be interested in a player of the caliber of the native of Arkel, who in the past was linked as a possible addition to the German team.

According to the same source, Barcelona, considering this possible interest from Bayern Munich in Frenkie de Jong, is reportedly working, through Deco (Barça's sporting director), to close a strategic exchange deal. The idea would be to use the midfielder as part of a negotiation for the arrival of Joshua Kimmich, whose contract with 'Die Roten' expires on June 30, 2025, and whose renewal situation is unclear, to the Catalan team.

Therefore, although this swap might be of interest to both clubs, there are several details to resolve. For example, it would be crucial to know if Frenkie de Jong will adjust his earnings to Bayern's salary structure if he joins the Bavarian club. Likewise, if Barcelona wants to sign Joshua Kimmich, the German midfielder would also represent a significant financial investment in terms of salary. Will the Culé club have the necessary salary structure to successfully complete his registration without any issues? This remains to be seen.
