FC Barcelona could definitively say goodbye to the possibility of seeing Pep Guardiola back on the blaugrana bench. At least in the medium term. The Santpedor native opened up about his future plans in an interview for the podcast 'Desmontadito', where he dropped a 'bombshell' that could very well represent the beginning of the end of an era.
"I am not going to manage another team. I am not talking about the long-term future, but what I will not do is leave Manchester City and go to another country to do the same as I do now", he explained in his conversation with chef Dani García. Pep will complete a decade at the helm of the 'sky blue' team if he ultimately fulfills at least one of the two years stipulated in his contract renewal. The Catalan arrived in England in 2016, after his time at Bayern Munich.
Pep Does Not Rule Out Managing a National Team in the Future
In that sense, the coach made his position clear regarding his future on the benches, at least for the next two years. "The idea of starting somewhere else, the whole training process and so on... ¡No, no! I wouldn’t have the same energy. Maybe with a national team, but that’s different", Guardiola argued.
This season, the Santpedor native has experienced his worst results crisis since his debut in LaLiga with FC Barcelona in the 2008/09 season. The City has suffered five consecutive defeats and has only managed to win one of their last nine matches across all competitions.
Moreover, the Manchester team is still awaiting the resolution of the 130 charges that the Premier League brought against them for alleged financial violations committed from the summer of 2008 to 2023. All of this has cast doubt on Pep's continuity with the 'cityzen' team, although the club addressed the rumors by announcing the renewal of the 53-year-old coach.
