FC Barcelona could be considering the sale of Eric García. However, this option would be hindered for a specific reason. What would that reason be? We explain it to you at FCBN
The sports management of FC Barcelona is currently fully focused on resolving the issue of the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, a matter that promises to continue generating controversy in the coming days. However, although this appears to be the most important topic to address at the moment, another issue has recently gained strength: the possible departure of some players from the Catalan team during this winter transfer window.
In this regard, there is a particular case worth discussing: Eric García. In fact, the figure of the Martorell native, the first goal scorer for FC Barcelona in 2025, has been the subject of debate regarding his stay at the club. Why? He is a player who, to some extent, possesses all the qualities that could make him a candidate for a transfer: he does not enjoy a prominent role in the starting lineup, although he is an interesting asset who can play both in defense and in midfield.
Furthermore, there are clubs interested in his transfer. In this latter point, it is worth mentioning that there has been mention of his potential transfer to Girona, an operation that is being valued at around €10 million between fixed and variable payments, and which could materialize in this winter transfer market.
The reason hindering Eric García's departure from Barça in this winter transfer market
However, it seems that the exit of Eric García from Barcelona, at least for now, is not imminent. As reported in 'SPORT', the departure of the former Manchester City player is on hold due to the current situation at the club; given the uncertainty surrounding the resolution of Dani Olmo's case, the Catalan team would not want to part with more assets that could be useful in the midfield, as this would further weaken the team that needs depth in the squad due to the numerous competitions and commitments ahead.
In this context, as indicated by the mentioned source, if the departure of Eric García were to be finalized in this winter transfer market, the club would need to sign a midfielder who brings physical strength and dynamism to reinforce a midfield where, in the absence of Dani Olmo, various opportunities would arise for the player from Martorell to get playing time.
However, if the sale of Eric García could be completed for a sufficiently attractive amount to bring in another midfielder who meets the requirements of Hansi Flick, the situation would change. In that case, the German coach would not oppose the departure of the Catalan, just as apparently the sports management of the Catalan club is not objecting to it.
