FC Barcelona has not yet ruled out signing Nico Williams in the near future. However, Barça's interest in the Pamplona native would also be subject to the fulfillment of a condition. Which is it? We tell you at FCBN

The 'soap opera' surrounding the future of Nico Williams gives the impression of not having yet reached its conclusion. Although, in theory, everything seemed to have been resolved with the left winger from Pamplona's continuity at Athletic Club for the 2024-25 season, the reality is that his constant hints about the option of leaving the Basque team next summer do not completely rule out the idea of seeing him wearing the blaugrana shirt at some point.

Apparently, Athletic Club is aware of this situation. As suggested in 'SPORT,' the Basque side, as a preventive measure against a possible departure of Nico Williams next summer, would be considering offering him a new contract for renewal. This decision would not only aim to secure the forward's services beyond 2027 but also focus on economic aspects.

Specifically, Athletic Club would seek to renew Nico Williams's contract to increase his release clause to a figure higher than the current 62 million euros (58 M€ clause + four additional for the IPC). This would allow them to demand a higher financial compensation for the player if he decides to leave the team, forcing any interested club to negotiate with them.

Barcelona would consider signing Nico Williams only if this condition is maintained

This move could change the interest of FC Barcelona, which has expressed its desire to have the player's services, as long as it takes place within the current conditions (the 62 M€ release clause). This aspect is crucial to keep the negotiation options alive and for the blaugrana team to remain attentive to the forward's future. However, if the value of the release clause changes, it must be considered whether the Catalan club would be willing to make a higher financial offer.

It is important to note that this transaction will only take place if Nico Williams decides not to renew his contract with Athletic Club. In that case, negotiations will be conducted with greater caution and discretion than in the past, especially awaiting what may happen in January, when Barcelona clarifies its situation regarding the 1/1 rule and financial fair play, a matter that also hindered the forward's arrival during the last summer transfer window.
