FC Barcelona is close to securing the services of Jonathan Tah. This acquisition could cause a revolution in the team's defense, with two players who could be considered candidates to be sold this coming summer

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The potential signing of Jonathan Tah by FC Barcelona seems to be on the verge of materializing. This market opportunity raises a new debate about Hansi Flick's sporting project: with the arrival of the German defender and the surplus of players in that position, will there be departures in the upcoming summer transfer window?

All signs point to yes, with two standout candidates. It is important to mention that, of the five center-backs currently at Barcelona: Pau Cubarsí, Iñigo Martínez, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, and Eric García (not counting Jules Koundé, who is already considered a regular right-back), two of them would be out of the equation: Cubarsí and Iñigo.

The jewel of the Blaugrana academy is one of the most exciting prospects for the future of Barcelona, contributing both in the present as a solid center-back and, of all, the one who best handles building up play from the defensive line. He is indispensable.

On the other hand, the Basque defender, being the only left-footed player in the squad, has shown his value with his experience and has earned the trust of Hansi Flick, being one of the players with the most minutes in this 2024-25 season (2,136'). His renewal and continuity seem almost certain.

Ronald Araujo, a Special Case to Consider

With this scenario, three players are under consideration: Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, and Eric García. In particular, the situation of the Uruguayan '4' is unique; Rivera's player is among the best in the world and, although he has not played since his recovery, he seems to be an important part of Hansi Flick's sporting project. However, his renewal will also be crucial for his stay, a matter that is still unresolved and could lead the Catalan team to consider putting him on the market.

The Two Candidates for Sale at Barça if Jonathan Tah Arrives: Eric García and Andreas Christensen

This points to two names that various sources agree that Barcelona will likely put on the market: Eric García and Andreas Christensen. The departure of the defender from Martorell seems highly probable, as he has previously been linked with leaving the Barcelona squad.

So far in the 2024-25 season, Hansi Flick has barely used him, only deploying him in 13 matches (mostly as a pivot) and accumulating a total of 541 minutes on the field. Given the interest of several clubs in him, it would not be out of the question for the Catalan team to seek negotiations for him.

On the other hand, Andreas Christensen would be another name with serious options to be transferred by Barcelona next summer. The number '15' of the team from the Catalan city, constantly surrounded by rumors of his departure from the team, has barely participated in a game this season, accumulating only 26 minutes in total, all due to Achilles tendon tendinopathy in his left leg that has kept him out of action since last August.

In addition to this inability to defend his stay in Barcelona due to the injury, his contract expires on June 30, 2026. The option of his renewal does not seem to be the most viable, considering that the defender, at 28 years old, still holds a good value in the market and there are teams interested in signing him.

Given this, his sale is quite tempting, especially when considering that the Catalan team could obtain a net profit, as they would not have to amortize any transfer costs, since the Dane arrived as a free agent from Chelsea in 2022.
