One of the best wingers in European football will leave Juventus this summer. In a press conference ahead of his debut in the 2024/25 Serie A season, Thiago Motta confirmed that Federico Chiesa is not in his plans
Federico Chiesa's departure from Juventus is imminent. The Turin team's new coach, Thiago Motta, made it clear again that he will not count on the 26-year-old player for the 2024/25 season. For this reason, he was not called up for the Serie A debut this Monday, August 19, against Cesc Fabregas' Como 1907.
The new 'bianconero' project has generated a revolution in the squad, with the new coach willing to keep only the players that he feels will work for him. One of the discards is Chiesa, whom the board would be willing to sell at a price lower than his value in order to complete his departure from Italy. Unfortunately, the player has not been the same after a serious knee injury he had at the beginning of 2022, so the Italian-Brazilian has said 'goodbye' to him.
In the lead-up to the match, Motta said the following: “Our position on Federico Chiesa has not changed. He is not part of our plans. We have spoken. It is a sign of the respect I have for everyone. Transparency, clarity, that is the way I communicate with my players.” Last season, the former Fiorentina player played 37 games in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists, which is why many European teams want to sign him.
A great opportunity for Barcelona
The Barça board is looking favourably on Chiesa’s arrival in Barcelona. Right now, the Italian represents a great market opportunity. Despite the fact that Juventus invested 50 million euros for his arrival, they would be willing to let him go for between 20 and 25 million, a fairly low amount in relation to his quality and what he could contribute as a left winger. The only thing that would be against him right now is his €5m salary, but a deal could be done without any major problems.
But if they want to sign him they will have to act quickly. Clubs such as AS Roma, Chelsea and Tottenham are reportedly interested in his services and if someone decides to make an offer, the deal will probably be done as soon as possible. With players such as Nico Williams and Luis Diaz staying at their clubs, the Euro 2020 winner is the best option available. Will they sign him or discard him?
