There is no plan B: Joao Cancelo only wants to play for Barça
Joao Cancelo is clear: He only wants to sign for FC Barcelona. The Portuguese is already in talks with Manchester City's directors to speed up negotiations for his loan so he can return to Barcelona
It's rare in life that you come across a player as loyal as Joao Cancelo. The Portuguese player played on loan at FC Barcelona last season and was delighted with both the club and the fans. That's why, despite returning to Manchester City, he's doing everything possible to be able to return to the team from the Catalan capital.
Cancelo's case is very different from that of his compatriot, Joao Felix, who also had a loan contract, but whose chances of returning to Barça are increasingly remote. Atlético de Madrid refuse to loan him out, so it's possible that they will end up selling him to the highest bidder. Meanwhile, the former Bayern Munich player is optimistic and believes that he will be able to reach an agreement with Pep Guardiola's club to guarantee his departure from England.
According to several media outlets, after the Community Shield match between Manchester City and Manchester United, where Guardiola's team won on penalties, the player would have made statements in which he would have expressed his desire to return to Barcelona. The departure of Julián Araújo and the possible sale of Héctor Fort would allow him to return to Hansi Flick's squad without any problem. The German coach would look favourably on his incorporation, as he knows very well what the full-back can offer his team.
Barcelona have already made an offer to City
The Barça board have reportedly already made a formal offer to acquire the player's services. This would consist of paying the 'Citizens' around 7 million euros for a new loan agreement, in addition to taking charge of the player's salary and signing a purchase option of 20 million euros at the end of the loan.
City would not agree with this proposal and would refuse to let him leave for less than 25 million euros. They have even reportedly offered the player to several European clubs, although they have not yet had a positive response from any of them. Juventus is a club that has shown interest, but only through a loan. It remains to be seen whether Cancelo will be able to mediate between the two clubs to reach an agreement that benefits both parties. What will be the outcome? We will find out in the coming days.
